Courage & Renewal Northeast

Many of us who are engaged in education, leadership, community service, healthcare and social change experienced a sense of calling that first brought us to our work, yet we know that staying connected to that call can be challenging. Sustaining our commitment to challenging work requires that we take time to renew our own spirits and reconnect with the wellsprings of our service to others.

Over the past decade, Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal have created a unique approach to renewing personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality. First developed with public school teachers as Courage to Teach®, this approach is now being offered to a growing number of interested persons in other professions.

Courage & Renewal retreats and program provide opportunities, individually and in community, for personal and professional insight and growth. They give  individuals time to:

  • reflect and re-charge
  • focus on pressing work and life questions
  • support others' personal and professional development
  • celebrate gifts and acknowledge limitations
  • practice deep listening
  • find the courage to live in congruence with their values, sustain professional integrity, and help their communities do the same

Established at Wellesley College in 2005, Courage & Renewal Northeast is a regional affiliate of the Center for Courage & Renewal and brings together other institutions, organizations, educational leaders, and Courage & Renewal Northeast facilitators to foster the growth of this work in the Boston area and throughout the northeast.

Courage & Renewal Northeast facilitates and promotes retreats and related events in the region that serve K-12 educators, college and university faculty, and leaders in healthcare and across serving professions.
